How should vacuum pumps be maintained and serviced in the spring?

2017-08-30

Vacuum pumps, with proper maintenance and care during use, can effectively extend their lifespan. Below, Yutong Pump Industry introduces some commonly used techniques for vacuum pump operation. (1) Regularly check if all bolts on the vacuum pump are loose, if there are any air leaks in the suction pipe, if the tightness of the packing seal is appropriate, if there are any leaks from the packing seal, and if there are any frictional noises or other unusual sounds from the rotating parts. If any of these issues are found, the machine should be stopped for repair or parts replacement. (2) The water should be free of sand and debris. (3) If hard water is used as the working fluid, the water must be softened or the pump should be regularly flushed with a solvent. Generally, 1

With proper maintenance and care, the lifespan of a vacuum pump can be significantly extended. Yutong Pump Industry shares some useful tips for vacuum pump operation.

Regularly check for loose bolts, air leaks in the suction pipe, appropriate tightness of the packing seal, leaks from the packing seal, and any friction or unusual noises from rotating parts. If any issues are found, stop the pump, repair, or replace parts as needed.

Sand and debris must not be present in the water.

If using hard water as the working fluid, it must be softened or the pump must be regularly flushed with a solvent. Generally, soak in 10% oxalic acid for 30 minutes, or use a descaling agent used in industrial boilers for 30 minutes to remove calcium carbonate.

If the pump is not used for more than two weeks, drain the water from the pump and inject 0.5L of rust inhibitor or oil into the suction port. Briefly operate the pump for no more than 1 second.

If the water ring vacuum pump is used in a low-temperature environment with a risk of freezing, use an antifreeze and corrosion-resistant working fluid, such as mineral oil. After each use, drain the water from the pump chamber.

If the water ring pump is not in use for an extended period, drain the water and add rust inhibitor for protection.
